Yes, transparent energy analysis often leads to questions about our idealistic notions. Perhaps the greatest idealistic notion is that more energy, via sustainable, nonpolluting technologies, will be the magic bullet. But if we take a meta view of the problems of modern human society we might conclude that all modern problems, from climate change to pollution to famine to mental illness are a product of thermal pollution: the release of too much energy into the biosphere whether it is CO2 emissions trapping solar heat, the impermeability of plastics due to their high energy bonds or mental illness caused by living in high energy, high stress environments. Modern society is addicted to high energy, but I think this will be understood to be ultimately harmful to the world and our own physiology.
